Nice weather we're having, eh?

From today's Boston Glob:

[Attorney General] Francis X. Belloti called for a halt to the rain
yesterday. [Republican gubernatorial candidate?] Steven D. Pierce said
he'd file a bill to improve the weather. And [Democratic gubernatorial
candidate] John R. Silber urged citizens of the commonwealth to do a
rain dance.

It has become apparent that on this--which may be the fourth consecutive
day of rain this week--the 17th day of rain in the month, another sodden
slopy day in the Spring That Drowned, the dominant issue of the
gubernatorial race is not the 15 percent rule, not abortion, not even
taxes.

The issue is rain.

And the situation, by anybody's account, is growing urgent. After 10
days of rain interrupted by a mere two dry days, the hours meld into
gray matter, the end of each damp day oozing into the moist start of the
next in a clammy climatological continuum from which there is no escape.

At a time when the state is in perilous fiscal shape, when jobs are
disappearing more quickly than tax refunds, when the downward spiral of
the real estate market continues uninterrupted, some are even moved to
ask: Could this be the fault of Gov. Dukakis?

The answer: Why not?...
