I installed Apache Ant 1.5.4 in the sipb locker for Athena 9.2 on Sun
and Linux. It is currently using java 1.4.1_01 by default.
According to the manual, "Apache Ant is a Java-based build tool. In
theory, it is kind of like make, without make's wrinkles." The reality
is that it isn't very good. But it seems to be the standard java build
tool, and lots of software projects are using it these days, so some
people may find it helpful.
The manual and other information is available at

PS: I also removed the program called ant from the outland locker,
becuase of the naming conflict. It was an xscreensaver hack installed
in 1997. All modern Athena machines should have it available as
/usr/athena/libexec/xscreensaver/ant
