   Latex and xdvi recognize the command \special psfile=/mit/djhejna/...
   rotation=90 hscale=0.5 as it gives:

   xdvi: special "psfile=/mit/djhejna/sped/sped.dmp rotation=90
   hscale=0.6 vscale= 0.6" not implemented

  Nope. What do you think "not implemented" means? Xdvi knows
absolutely nothing about the psfile \special, so it says it's not
implemented and does nothing with it. Xdvi would ignore anything you
placed inside the \special.

   However dvi2ps does not get the rotation command! It says:

    [/usr/athena/lib/tex/ps/dvi.ps][2 Invalid keyword or value in
    \special - "rotation" ignored [/mit/djhejna/sped/sped.dmp]] [1]

  You're right. The documentation installed in the sipb locker
appears to be slightly different from what's actually running in the
locker.

  Apparently, we once had an older version of dvi2ps that had the
rotation option. For some reason, the authors of the program deleted
that option when issuing a new version of the code; it will take me a
while to figure out why the option was deleted and (if possible -- it
should be possible, but that isn't definite) to restore it. I will
let you know when I know something more definite.
