My mistake.  cdda2wav that i mentioned is from the outland locker.
cdda2wav-1.11a11 from the cdrecord locker is broken, but cdda2wav from the
cdrecord locker seems to work.

Supplying additional options to either commands doesn't help.  Using "-v43" on
cdda2wav seems to help.

Being root or regular user makes no difference.
