Greetings,
Now that pine is officially in the Athena release, we have been
running into cases where users are running different versions of pine
unwittingly, or have "add -f sipb" in their dotfiles, which is
causing problems for some users.
I (and many of the OLC consultants) think it would be quite useful if
both "pine" and "pine-imap" in the sipb locker had wrapper scripts
that displayed the following message to the user:
"Please note that pine is now included in the Athena release, and is
located at /usr/athena/bin/pine. That version of pine is configured
to leave your mail on the IMAP servers, and is also a more recent
version of pine than the one you are attempting to run. Please note
that you may encounter situations in which the Athena Consultants
cannot provide support if you are not running the Release version of
pine."
Further, it would be especially useful if "pine" in the SIPB locker
could inform the user that they are about to permanently remove all
their e-mails from the IMAP server, which could have bad consequences
if they are near quota, and give them the option to quit pine before
it does that. This situation is quite common for users that do "add
-f sipb" or attempt to run "pine" on a 9.0 machine.
Thanks,
Jon, on behalf of OLC
