Hello,
I am sorry to say that if your mail isn't either in your ~/mail/inbox
or on the server, it isn't anywhere. There are no inermediate steps
involved between copying the mail from the server and saving it to the
~/mail/inbox file.
I can at least report that I've finally been able to reproduce the
problem, which means that I might be able to solve it in the future,
but that is not likely to be of much consolation to you, since it
doesn't get you your mail back.
