There was a problem with one of the PO servers being hosed, which is
what it sounds like you noticed.
It seems odd that it would have deleted your mail; that's not how it's
supposed to work, if you use 'inc' to incorporate mail. You should
double check that the mail isn't already in your inbox; if you don't
find it, sending mail to postmaster@mit.edu and explaining the problem
is worth a try. (Be sure to do so fairly soon, if you take that route,
because their backups rotate quickly.)
In future, if the problem's a time-sensitive one, and not pertaining to
a particular peice of software, you'll likely get better help with it
by asking an olc question; 'olc' at the athena% prompt should do this.
