gimp 1.2 doesn't appear to recognize jpegs. The previous version
did (and still does), as I note from running it by hand.
(When I say "it doesn't recognize them" I mean that it doesn't
automatically identify them from a .jpg suffix, nor can you select
jpeg as a file type).
