Please direct general inquiries for the SIPB to <sipb@mit.edu>;
where did you see the address <bug-sipb@mit.edu>?
| I am a member of the class of 2002 Ring Committee and was wondering if it
| was at all possible to zephyr everyone in the class of 2002 possibly 2
| times during February/March of the upcoming Ring Premiere.
It is certainly possible, but it is likely to be frowned upon by the
powers that be (who are not us), both for putting a large
instantaneous load on the zephyr system, and for promulgating zephyr
as an advertisement -type service.
| Like one of those login messages you get about clusters being closed
| when you first login.
That is the global message of the day (aka "gmotd"), and is not
tailorable for particular types of users, so it would not be
appropriate. In addition,
| Now, i don't know if those messages are reserved for availability of
| athena clusters or computers,
There is that.
| but if they are is there another format similar to zephyr you could
| recommend? Thanx in advcance for any help you can provide.
There is a service similar to the gmotd called "lert" (short for "alert")
which also causes a zephyr to be sent to users; it allows fine-tuning
of the type of users, however, so could be used for your request.
However, lert is generally reserved for operational messages, similar
to the gmotd.
There's no generic capacity for requesting lert messages, however.
The Athena Server Operations group is responsible for maintenance of
the system, and you could contact them at <op@MIT.EDU>, though they
might direct you elsewhere.
