Interesting that you should mention that.  Someone unrelated had also
been having problems with exmh being slow to exit.  The reason his exmh
was slow that he had a long list of saved window positions -- long
enough that Tcl's N^2 processing time started to be noticeably harmful.

I don't know if you are having the same problem, but you could test
it by clearing out the saved-window-positions list, and seeing if
exmh gets faster.

To do this, you'd use exmh's
 "Preferences" button,
 then "Windows and scrolling" entry,
 and then set the "Remember window placement" to OFF.

Quit exmh and restart.  With luck, you should be back to fast behavior.

(You can re-enable remembered windows if you wish -- the important thing
was to clear the list.)

Makes me wonder if others are having problems with slowness.
