I'd vote on removing sdate and installing remind.  If you'd like, you
can replace sdate with a script that calls remind.  Remind can,
indeed, calculate sunrise and sunset times, and it shouldn't be
difficult to write a wrapper to call remind and make its output look
like sdate's.
