The "md5", "cksum", and "fingerprint" programs which are installed
in the sipb locker do seem to be public domain. A bit of digging
suggests that they came from volume 28 of the comp.sources.unix
archives. You can pick up this from several places. Perhaps try:
ftp://gatekeeper.dec.com/pub/usenet/comp.sources.unix/volume28/fingerprint/
ftp://ftp.isc.org/pub/usenet/comp.sources.unix/volume28/fingerprint/
The package is credited to:
This is the fingerprint 0.75 package, gamma.

and the documenmtation has many instances of
"Placed into the public domain by Daniel J. Bernstein."
sprinkled throughout it. IANAL, but this has a reasonable chance
of being useful to you.
