	XMCD has worked for me in most cases, so I expect the machine I was on
at the time was just screwed up.  On that particular machine, XMCD simply always
thought that there was no CD in the drive, even when there was.  None of the
buttons responded, except the eject button which simply printed an error to the
terminal which had started it.  The error was
"DKIOCEJECT failed: Bad file number" which is the same error I normally see in
XMCD if I try to eject when there's no disc in the drive.
