In addition to newsgroups existing, they also have to be carried
by the news server you use. The server news.mit.edu carries the
group athena.forsale, but not bu.forsale or harvard.forsale.
If you wanted to post to these groups, you'd have to find a
news server that carries them; offhand, I'm not sure where such a
server might be.
