Perhaps that has something to do with the RCS comment:
Attempt to fix file locking code that doesn't work under AFS.
This attempt does not appear to have worked.
The RCS comment is probably the effect, not the cause. (After I
thought I installed it, I noticed that it was still giving the syslog,
so I said that the fix didn't work.)
Anyway, it's really fixed now.
