The problem you are having has something to do with the interaction
between xscreensaver and mwm, although I have not been able to isolate
it (it is particularly difficult to do so over a 1200 baud modem
line). I will be working on figuring out what the problem is when I
get back to school in the beginning of September.
In the meantime, you need to kill your window manager if you want to
lock the screen. The easiest way to arrange this is to put
"/mit/consult/`machtype`bin/punt mwm" as the xscreensaver lock command
in your resources, and "mwm &" in the unlock command. This will cause
xscreensaver to automatically get rid of the window manager when the
screen is locked, and start it up again when the screen is unlocked.
