I wrote a little document which proposes a reasonable filesystem for
the Sipb locker. It's in /afs/sipb/project/doc/sipb-locker/fsstnd.
I'd like to try to make the Sipb locker look like the filesystem
proposed in this document. However, I don't want to start
gratuitously moving stuff around in the Sipb locker, possibly breaking
software that people depend on.
Instead, I think that the right approach is to try to create a new
Sipb locker from scratch. Once all of the Sipb locker software has
been installed and tested in the new locker, it can be atomically
swapped with the old locker. (Or it can be thrown out if it turns out
that the old locker works better.)
Here's how you can help: Read /afs/sipb/project/doc/sipb-locker/fsstnd,
and then volunteer to install and maintain your favorite programs in
the new Sipb locker.
Or, just use the new Sipb locker and report stuff that doesn't work.
(I've got several programs installed for Sun and SGI so far. I'm not
working on any other platforms at the moment.)
Here's how you can access the new Sipb locker: Detach sipb, make sure
nothing is mounted on /mit/sipb, and then do "attach sipb-new". This
mounts /afs/sipb/project/sipb-new on /mit/sipb.
Have a nice day.
