EXMH weirdness

I've recently had to problems with EXMH on a linux-athena box
(standard sipb-instructions installation) kernel 1.2.13elf with afs.
I notice that wish was just upgraded from version 4.0 to 4.1 on
July 21, which is about the time several friends and I started having
problems.
Specifically, the tk background component keeps generating lots of error
messages about the X server being insecure - apparently because it is
using the older xhost style security that seems to be the norm at
least on campus. This is annoying as I haven't figured out how
to fix the x server, but isn't that much of a problem.
Another far more serious problem is that on at least two occassions,
the new version of exmh/wish became confused, deleated the wrong messages,
and then listed messages in its list window which no longer existed in
the folder. Attempts to display those messages with either exmh
or the standard show command caused "message does not exist" errors.
As a temporary fix, I've made myself a copy of the exmh script and
modified it to start the old version... but even that isn't working
perfectly.
Would it be possible for someone to explain to the linux community
on campus what we need to change with our X servers, and for
my problem with incorrect message deletions to be forwarded to
whoever maintains the program itself?
Thank you,
Chris Stratton
