I believe this is due to a bug in the Athena lpr that has since been
fixed.  (Of course, this is hard to check, since lpr sources are
currently fascist for some reason.)

Unless I'm mistaken, this only happens if the data is being piped into
lpr, so sticking dvips output into a file in /tmp and lpr'ing that by
hand should fix the problem.
