The defaults for xdvi are indeed a bit annoying. We were going to get
this fixed a while ago, but I'd guess that the relevant people got
busy with classes. I'll see what we can do about it.
By the way, this changed a few months ago, and it should affect all
platforms. If it doesn't work the same for all platforms for you, can
you let us know?
