I know at least that several changes between the way libc and
the kernel interact were made to support the PPC601 in 3.2.5. This
tends to show up especially in programs that use floating point math
(the trap interfaces changed), but I think there are other situations
where it can be a problem. It is a symbol resolution problem,
(symbols don't exist in the old libc/kernel), so if a program works at
all it should work fully. X applications will certainly fail if
linked against AIX libraries.

Besides floating point and X apps, I don't know of any major
compatibility problems, but it is an issue.
