I was webbing around, when the following occurred:

At the time, I was reading abbe's homepage, and flipping back
and forth between an external (not Mosaic-spawned) xv and the Mosaic
window. I was doing this flipping since I needed the external xv to view
non-inlined images, as the Mosaic program was giving me trouble with this
function (roughly "Couldn't open /tmp/xv.pid-press q to quit"). I don't
know if this latter problem is related at all.
