(Sorry for the blank message; ^C^C is really too short to be "send off
the mail".)

I thought I should make an on-the-record statement about this: I would
be quite happy to consider the sipb-gnu locker supported and have a
filsys entry pointing to it. This would require a slight revision of
our "bleeding edge" philosophy, and might require a bit more
record-keeping on what versions introduced and fixed what bugs (the
gnu.* hierarchy should help out here, since Athena users rarely report
bugs in sipb-gnu programs).

A reasonable name for this locker would be "sipb-gnu", but a much
better one would be "gnu". I will talk to some DCNS-dev staffers and
see if I can find out people's opinions on this. However, I'm not the
only maintainer of /afs/sipb/project/gnu, so at this point I won't
make a unilateral decision as to whether it's okay to call it
supported.

As long as I'm sending mail: the volume layout of the gnu locker sucks
(some machine types have their own volumes, some don't, and the
symlinks are a terrible mess), and I'm open to suggestions for a
better one.
