Start by firing up xmosaic on Athena by typing add sipb and then xmosaic. It takes a little while to get started, at which point you should see the SIPB home page. Near the bottom is the beginning of the chain you should follow: Interesting documents -> CERN Home Page -> World-Wide Web -> Technical. On that page, explore HTML format and Addressing. It isn't necessary to read everything that is connected to those pages; you should explore the page itself and enough other things to be able to talk knowledgeably about WWW URI's, URL's, and HTML. I've already had one student come in confused because there's no xmosaic in the SIPB locker. * I've posted to the 6.033 discuss meeting giving the proper command (Mosaic). * In the future, if a course is going to rely on SIPB software, which is not necessarily advisable in the first place, we'd appreciate knowing about it in advance of the assignment. You can send mail to sipb-staff@mit.edu to let us know. * One of the sipb-locker maintainers might want to consider making symlinks from xmosaic to Mosaic in the sipb locker binary directories for a few days. Thanks for your time. --Greg Hudson Vice Chair, Student Information Processing Board
