The problem is with the news servers. We have been experiencing very
high load on the news servers for the last week or so, probably
because we are keeping most of the relevant news files on a slower
external drive due to hardware problems with our machine's internal
drive.
Our hardware situation has just recently settled down (we have a new
machine now, effectively), and if there aren't any problems in the
next day or so, I think we will move news back to the internal drives
this weekend.
