This is my KILL file for sci.physics:

/Subject: Re: [A-Z][A-Z]* [A-Z][A-Z]*/cj=
/Subject: [A-Z][A-Z]* [A-Z][A-Z]*/cj=

Every time it kills an article which matches the first pattern, rn
complains "Badly compiled pattern". The second pattern works without
complaint. If I reverse the order of the patterns rn still complains
about the one which is first in the file (the one it didn't complain
about before).

This happens on an RS/6000 and an RT.
