Right now we're in the middle of updating the news server to faster
hardware. If you'd happened to check the OLC Message Of The Day to
see if anything was up, you'd have noticed:

hardware. If you'd happened to check the OLC Message Of The Day to
see if anything was up, you'd have noticed:
> olc motd
NetNews service is being updated to use faster hardware and software.
During the update, you will still be able to read news normally, but no new
news will come in, and you will be unable to post news.
We now expect the update to last into Thursday morning. More information
will appear here when it is available.
