Hi,
Regarding the latest flurry of letters,
1. I do not have access to x-windows when I log into athena,
and so must wait a few days for my student to try out the new
set-up. Please don't undo it until then!
2. The current set-up as I understand it is to store the tex
parts of PSTricks in tex-contrib, and the dvi parts in sipb.
This is fine as long as the following instructions just sent
me by olc are noted somewhere:
i) Add the correct directory path to your TEXINPUTS
environment variable. For example:
setenv TEXINPUTS
.:/mit/sipb/lib/tex/macros:/usr/athena/lib/tex/macros:/mit/con
sult/lib/tex/macros:/mit/tex-contrib/PStricks/inputs/:/mit/tex
-contrib/PStricks/:
ii) Create a file in your home directory called .dvipsrc
iii) In the .dvipsrc file include the following line:
H .:/mit/tex-contrib/PStricks:/mit/sipb/lib/tex/ps-new:
3. I hope you don't use the usage measure for very recently
acquired software, as this would not accurately reflect
steady-state usage.
4. I can say that PSTricks is an *excellent* package, having
used it myself. As far as I know, it is the only drawing
package in which commands are just written into the latex
document just like the rest of the text. on comp.text.tex, it
has often been referred to as a must-see package.
It fills a major gap in the LaTeX drawing capabilities, and
if those taking the LaTeX courses offered by athena were
given a glimpse of the manual, many would want to use it.
Sincerely,
Lones Smith
