Seems Martha is special...
First, I logged in under her as root, and see what happens:
> deathtongue# finger root
> finger: No ticket file found
> Failure in ZLocateUser
>
> Local:
> Login name: root In real life: Operator
> Directory: / Shell: /bin/athena/tcsh
> On since Nov 1 11:17:32 on ttyp0 from :0.0
> 1 minute 27 seconds Idle Time
> No Plan.
>
> Login name: root In real life: Operator
> Directory: / Segmentation fault (core dumped)
>
> deathtongue# ls -la /usr/tmp/core.root
> -rw-r--r-- 1 root 8483248 Nov 1 11:22 /usr/tmp/core.root
(Note that Martha wasn't SU'd at the time, and when she did, it showed up
as another regular root entry before the coredump. Also, I renamed the dump
to /usr/tmp/core.root.finger, if anyone wants to take a look...)
But after Martha logs out:
> deathtongue# finger root
> finger: No ticket file found
> Failure in ZLocateUser
>
> Local:
> Login name: root In real life: Operator
> Directory: / Shell: /bin/athena/tcsh
> On since Nov 1 11:16:59 on ttyp4 from HODGE.MIT.EDU
> No Plan.
>
> Athena-wide:
> Login name: root In real life: Wizard A Root
> Directory: /mit/root Shell: /bin/csh
> Never logged in.
> No Plan.
Works ok.
Another (possibly important) detail: when she was logged in, there were
TWO identical marthag entries in /etc/passwd; one got deleted when she
logged out.
