problem converting xfig files to 2.1 format

A user came to the office reporting a problem with xfig. She had tried
accessing her existing xfig files tonight on decmips, rt, and vax
machines in the W20 cluster. In all cases, she got errors saying
something like "converting from version 1.3 format to version 2.1
format ... error in input on line 1".
She believes the last time she accessed these files was prior to last
May (the date on the current xfig binaries in the sipb locker).
For some reason, the user did not want to leave her name or any
information on how to contact her, should we come up with a procedure
for converting these files.
I'm sending this in, in case anyone wants to look for possible bugs in
xfig file conversion before the bulk of the users return in the fall.
