Some more lore about maintaining software in sipbsrc.  In particular,
this is the procedure I use when I am making a change to a program
that we got from somewhere else:

1) All changes must be RCS-logged.

2) If the change is something that should be incorporated into the
"official" version of the program, than after making the change I (a)
send a diff back to tha author, and (b) mark the status of the change
in the RCS logs as "Submitted", using the "-s" flag to either ci or
RCS.

I certainly have no objections to the changes you proposed.  Just make
sure you log them and forward them back to the maintainers of gnus, rn
and xrn.
