   <45> deathtongue:~> cat .newsrc
   alt.fan.mike-jittlov: 1-722
   comp.lang.perl: 1-10982
   news.answers: 1-1055,1244,1367

Not coincidentally, I think, the only groups I read were a.f.m-j, and
c.l.p. The FAQ in c.l.p was crossposted to news.answers, and I
imagine that's what caused that newsgroup to be there.

So, where is the rest of my .newsrc? If I use rn at some point, my
.newsrc will be newer than my .newsrc.el, and my .newsrc.el will get
badly hosed next time I run gnus.

Why do you say that? The next time you run gnus, gnus will realize
that there are newsgroups missing from your .newsrc, and it will add
them. I don't see why your .newsrc.el file would get corrupted.

What do you mean by "badly hosed?"

  jik
