It sounds to me like something between you and us is trying to use
XON/XOFF flow control. Either there's something wrong with the
configuration of the modems you're getting when you dial into Athena,
or there's something wrong with the configuration at your end. I
suspect the latter, since I don't think anyone else has reported this
problem. If you can't figure out what might be causing it, you might
try asking in olc and ask them to help.
