Thanks for researching this.

A significant amount of scripting work has been done, as recently as this past
January, in order to make SIPB pine play nicely with Athena pine.

I like SIPB pine, because it's the pine that I'm used to.  It took many years
of cajoling and the rest of the world moving on to get me to switch from
/bin/mail to pine, and I'd prefer not to have to do anything like that again.

As long as there are people willing to support SIPB pine and as long as it
doesn't actively interefere with Athena pine, what's the harm in keeping it?

I bet you think everyone should be using emacs, too :-).
