You're confused. The variable *does* exist, and it *can* be used.
The problem is not that it doesn't exist, but rather than the man page
doesn't mention it.
I used the NEWSRC and NNTPSERVER environment variables earlier today
with the version of rn in the sipb locker, and it worked fine, which
is how I konw it's there.
