A feature that might be useful, would be to be able to just type
xlock
or something have automatically have you screen locked, just like
xscreensaver. But xlock would exit as soon as you unlocked the screen.

Perfectly. The idea is such a good one that I implemented it :-).
When the sipb locker is released tonight, a new version of
xscreensaver will appear, and if you specify "+icon" on the command
line (or "xscreensaver*displayIcon: false" in your resources), it'll
either blank the screen or lock it (if you have autoLock or
startLocked set by resources or command-line) without putting up the
icon. "-icon" forces the old behavior, and is the default.
