xdvi.new appears to ignore all of the command line switches that are documented
in its manpage. I tried this:
xdvi.new -s 4 /mit/instructor/EOS_student_manual.dvi
and the "-s" flag, which is supposed to set the shrink factor, was ignored.
"-geometry" appears to be similarly ignored. Also, it would be nice if
you could get a usage message out of it. "-usage" and "-help" did not work,
rather, it assumed that these were filenames without .dvi extensions.
