Don Coscarelli: We did shoot a lot of film on the original Phantasm.
It's hard to really project what the film might have been like.
So it's a double-edged sword, as difficult as that kind of heat is, it's
also really helpful and it just dictates how things really are.
That's not the way they do it in TV.
In America there are large numbers of people involved in each movie -
needs to be approved. Also, in telling the stories before, the way the
stories were told maybe only Asian people or Chinese could understand
what we were talking about.
Instead, I choose to portray a university that was best with various
factions who were in-fighting amongst themselves.
Charisma is an extreme case where genre and theme are put together in a
hodge-podge fashion. You can not compete and say, "If I am the champion
I am a hero, and if I don't I am a loser.
DVD Talk: With both Incident On And Off A Mountain Road and Bubba Ho Tep
finished, do you have any plans to adapt anymore of his work? I think if
you just make movies set to convey a certain theme, they have a tendency
to get a little too long.
How did you enjoy working on this type of project and can we expect more
'straight' horror from you in the future?
