gaim not working...

When I run gaim from Athena, it says:
ln: cannot create /var/tmp/.agm/im: Permission denied
This is because the symbolic link has already been created by
hanssens.
I tried to get around this error by running:
/afs/sipb.mit.edu/project/im/arch/sun4x_58/bin/gaim.real
But I keep getting the error:
(gaim.real:18592): GLib-CRITICAL **: file gstrfuncs.c: line 1619 (g_strcasecmp): assertion `s1 != NULL' failed
This error pops up about once a minute.
I am using AOL (Oscar), ICQ (TOC), and Yahoo accounts.
