Hello Jonathan,

Thanks for offering to help maintain the im locker. Gaim is the program
that you'll probably get the most questions about, but there are a few other im
programs like azlaim (A Zephyr-Like AIM), and ntaim that occasionally get
questions, and you should feel free to install any IM client there.

For gaim, I have each version installed in a separate directory under
/mit/im/gaim . For MSN and SSL'ized Jabber support, I compile in gnutls,
and for Zephyr, I compile in krb4 support. My configure command looks
something like this:

./configure --with-krb4=/usr/athena --prefix=/mit/im/gaim/gaim-1.0.0 \
--exec-prefix=/mit/im/gaim/gaim-1.0.0/arch/$ATHENA_SYS --with-gnutls-includes=/mit/im/include --with-gnutls-libs=/mit/im/lib

After installing it, I create symlinks to the actual gaim
binaries (both gaim, and gaim-remote) in /mit/im/arch/$ATHENA_SYS/bin
(e.g. gaim-remote-1.0.0 and gaim-1.0.0), test it (I'm most likely to
accidentally not link in SSL support, so I test MSN first). If I seem to
be having no problems, a few days later, I repoint the "gaim" and
"gaim-remote" symlinks in the im locker to the newest version.

As for other programs, I just compile them with --prefix=/mit/im
--exec-prefix=/mit/im/arch/$ATHENA_SYS and what ever else is required to
get them working.

I've also added you to bug-im@mit.edu . It gets (on average) a little more
than a message a week these days.

I'm adding you to the acl's and hopefully this find command will end in
the next hour or so.

If you have any questions, just zephyr or email me.

Thanks,
  Arun
