  Hello Becky,

Assuming you're using this on Athena:

To use gaim for zephyr, first start up gaim by typing at the athena
  prompt:

  add im; gaim &
Then click on Accounts->Add from the initial screen.

Choose zephyr as the protocol, and for screenname, just put your =
Athena
username, romo. Since zephyr uses Kerberos, a password isn't required.

You might want to click on "Show More options", and check "Export to
.zephyr.subs" and "Export to .anyone". This will make sure that any
buddies you add, or chats you listen to will get read by Zwgc, and any
other zephyr programs you might use.

When you start gaim, it imports any buddies from your ~/.anyone file, =
and
loads any chats (classes and instances) you may listen to from your
  ~/.zephyr.subs .

You can add buddies, and send them messages as you would with aim, =
msn, or
  other im services within gaim.

You can join chats similarly (by going to Buddies->Join Chat), and =
filling
in the appropriate fields. For example, to listen to get Mail zephyr
grams, class: Mail, Instance: *, Recipient: %me% , and to listen to =
the
help class class: help , Instance: * , Recipient: *

If you have any other questions, feel free to send mail to =
bug-im@mit.edu
  Arun
