I don't disagree, but here's an additional idea that might be helpful. My owl
message formatter takes all incoming messages and re-wraps them to my current
terminal width. (I view code snippets with 'M'.) This also sidesteps your
problem since it doesn't matter to me how wide the sender's terminal is.
If there's sufficient interest, I could look in to merging my config into the
barnowl source.
