@JasonGross heads up on timing: I have a stack of related PRs open (#190 and #192 through #200). Everything is tested and the combined tree (master plus all of them) merges cleanly and passes 1,844 tests, but I haven't yet had time to personally review the test evidence (screenshots and logs from live tmux runs) that backs them, so please treat them as not yet human-approved.
If you're planning a Debian package release soon, could you hold off until I've gone through that evidence and say here that it's ready? I'd rather the release not ship these half-reviewed. The evidence is at https://github.com/djbclark/barnowl-test-evidence and each PR's thread links its own folder.
Merge order notes are in the bodies of #193, #195, #196 and #197; the other PRs are independent.
