I should note, however, that when I checkout this branch, and run `git clean -xfd && ./autogen.sh && ./configure && make distcheck -j16`, I get

ERROR: files left in build directory after distclean:
./depcomp
./install-sh
./missing
make[1]: *** [distcleancheck] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/afs/athena.mit.edu/user/j/g/jgross/Programs/barnowl2/barnowl-1.9dev-231-g7d6039d/_build'

```
