Oh wonderful journeymen to whom the lead bowx,
We had a lot of trouble locking up the type for the Reg Day Cards this
year. In fact, in spite of three different press ops (jtu, gjordan, and
myself) spending between 1-3 hours each trying to fix it, we still have
letters falling out everywhere.
Can someone more experienced please look at it and tell us what we did
wrong? Most of the offending lines probably just need to be reset, but
if we did something systematic (like weren't consistent on typeface, or
something else hard to determine like that), I'd like to know about it.
The offending block is on the slab. Sorry I didn't clean it up, but I
really want someone to look at it, exactly as it is.
Thanks,

Hi jtu, Grant, sasen:
[ I Bcc:ed apo-printshop-journeyman@MIT.EDU (see vii) -len ]
i) the Reg Day Schedule Card lockup is one of the most difficult,
I have ever seen in a Press Shop. I don't know who first designed it,
but s/he had to be a solid printer.
ii) i didn't expect the rules around the open meeting/project to meet
cleanly at the corners. My apologies for not emailing this.
Apologies**2 if you spent time on this.
iii) this lockup has 5 "blocks"
- a line of 24pt
- the book exchange info inside the mitred double rules
- a line of 24pt
- the open meeting/project info inside the single rules
- a line of 10pt
I appreciate it if each of you would e-mail which of these five gave
you problems.
If it's one of the ruled boxes, more trouble with lines at the top, or
lines at the bottom of the box? Or???
(jtu: I think you e-mailed that the bottom line with eddress/phone/URL
gave you trouble after you replaced an 8pt "@" with a 10pt "@". Is
that what you said?)
iv) Apologies, but I just put the type away, but I can still look at
it. It will be in 10 days or so. I'm about to go to FL to help my
eighty-something parents.
v) After I've heard from each of you, I'll e-mail you with some theory
and generics about this. Don't want to prejudices your input. ;-}
vi) I wish you had phoned. I gave you my phone number and was
together enough to help debug this block.
vii) Other journeymen should feel free to look at the type. It's in
the 2nd from bottom galley
