Hi Elizabeth,

* How long have you been teaching "EC/050, Recreate Historical
  Experiments"?

  How long have you been teaching at MIT?

  How long have you been at MIT?

  Do you know how to letterpress?

* I wish it was otherwise, but at this time, training of & access for
  those not in APO is not possible. If that changes, I'll try to
  remember to let you know. You are welcome to ask once a year or so.

* I might arrange a tour just for you & Jim Bales Space is tight in
  the Letterpress Shop & having more than two people back there at a
  time doesn't work. Very tight with three.

* I'm MIT '71.

  I was the SAA's instructor for its "Intro to Letterpress" course.
  One student the first term. None the next two. The SAA told me to
  find another home for it, wanting to use the space for courses &
  studio space for students doing other art forms.

  APO was willing. { At the time, I'm was a student brother of APO.
  Now an alumni brother. }

* Before the SAA, the Hobby Shop had it for decades. It was moved
  from the Hobby Shop's old home in building 2's basement to the its
  current home in the basement of the Armory.

  But only APO brothers were using it, so the Hobby Shop found the SAA
  as a place it would be used more.

best -len

   HI APO,

   I am an instructor at MIT in the Edgerton Center.=A0 During IAP, I am te=
aching a seminar
   [EC/050, Recreate Historical Experiments], where the students and I are =
investigating the
   life, experiments and technology of the time of Ben Franklin.=A0 Frankli=
n was a printer who set
   his own type and printed documents, almanacs, books and other works.

   My students are curious about the manual process of typesetting and prin=
ting.=A0 We observed a
   demonstration of this process, and the students became fascinated.

   Thery Mislick, instructor at MIT Student Art Association (SAA) and MIT E=
dgerton Center,
   informs me that APO has a press and type in the APO office.=A0 Historica=
lly, years ago, the
   press was part of SAA, where she used it.

   We would like to know if there is a way for interested students, such as=
 those in my academic
   course, could get access to the press at APO, and do printing projects w=
ith it?

   Sincerely,
   Elizabeth Cavicchi
