   Hello, APO,

I was wondering how much it would cost to print 100 letterpress
business cards in 1 or 2 colors of ink? What kind of papers do you
have? Is this service limited to only MIT community?

   Thanks,
   Rossana

Hi Rossana,

* Apology for no one getting back to you sooner. The Press Shop
Manager is away from the Internet right now.

* When do you need these by?

* You might get them a bit sooner, if you only order one color.
(It's four to six hours of labor per color to do this. And you have
to wait 24 hours for each color to dry before doing the next.)

* Printing is done on a volunteer basis as a community service. One
of the Press Operators has to agree to take the job on. None have
so far, but this email might get one of them to contact you.

We only print for the MIT Community and for 501(c)3 non-profit
  organizations.

* The shop is limited in what typefaces and pictures it has.
  It's all hard metal type.

It's wise for you and the Press Op to meet in the Shop, so you can
  see what is possible.

It's possible to get custom pictures made, but this would add a lot
of time to getting your cards printed. With cost perhaps in the
  $25.00 to $100.00 range.

It's also possible to buy new typefaces. But you would have to pay
for them, and it's hundreds of dollars and significant time to order
  them.

* The Shop has some old business card stock. It's a bit faded. You
have to look through it and see if any of it is acceptable to you.

The cost of this card stock is currently $2.00/100 cards.

If not, you can buy business card stock at

University Stationary. 311 Mass Ave Cambridge, MA 02139

and get it to the Press Operator.

* We currently charge $5.00 per color
(or numbering or perforation or scoring - but these don't matter to
  you)
  plus $0.20/100.

So the charge beyond the cost of paper for your 100 cards would be
  $5.20 per color.

best -len
