Hello pledges,
Welcome to APO!
I am your Printshop Chair, and I manage the activities around the
Chapter's cache of the 19th century graphic arts and technology -- the
APOster Letterpress Print Shop. Our press is operated by APO brothers
and has served the Chapter, various student groups at MIT and other
non-profits for a long time. The Steak Fry invitations that you are
about to receive were printed by the press, as were many thank-you
cards, envelopes, posters and all kinds of invitations. If you want to
know more, samples and an archive of past jobs can be found in the
Shop (located at the back of the office).
As pledges, you are encouraged to learn to operate the press.
Letterpress Printing is also a chapter skill, and satisfies the
pledge's chapter skill requirement. To be qualified as a press
operator, you will need to do a training run, which takes about 6 to 8
hours (this completes the pledge requirement and can be split into two
sections), and a qualifying run, which takes about 4 to 6 hours.
If you are interested in learning to use the press, please add
yourself to apo-printshop-wants-training and let me know. Only
journeymen can train new operators, and they are not always available,
so an early reply would be appreciated.
YiFLS,
