lori

if you have time to train or qualify her in the next few weeks, please
let us know

you might look into using silkscreening to do your class project(s).
it's quicker to learn, and much safer than letterpressing

you can NOT use the printshop by yourself, until you have passed both
a training run and a qualifying run.
the presses are VERY DANGEROUS, and safety training is needed.
it's also easy to damage them and the shop, without training.
type and presses are no longer made, and are VERY expensive to repair,
or obtain

when do you need to turn the project in?

lori and i are the only journeymen actively doing training or
qualifying runs.
she usually wants two to three weeks notice to schedule.
my schedule is tight the next ten days.
once i know your deadline and i know what is happening with aviv's
training run, i'll email you the times i'm available

you haven't told me enough about what you need to do to really advise you.
i suspect that we would have to meet in the shop, and discuss what you need to do,
and what the limitations of the shop are versus that.

even if you were trained and qualified,
a job would take you @ least 4 hours and perhaps more depending on a
large number of factors.
so @ least 8 to 12 hours for 2 to 3 jobs
could be more or less depending ...

training runs take 8 or more hours, depending ...
qualifying runs take 6 or more hours., depending ...
either can be done in two roughly equal sessions

up to a 100 is $3.10 for each color, numbering, perforating, IF YOU SUPPLY THE PAPER
$0.10/100 after that for each, IF YOU SUPPLY THE PAPER
you can buy paper from the shop, if we have it in the inventory - the
prices vary

wish we had more time, and/or this was simple - i like to do as much
as i can to help brothers, and to have more people use the press

thanx

   Subject: class project

   Hey guys-
I have a final project in 4.302 that would be super-cool if I could use the
printshop to do it. But I haven't been trained before and know nothing about
what is necessary. So I guess my questions are this:
Is it ok for me to use the printshop for a project, not a service
   thing/another groups' stuff?
Is there any way I could be trained in the next week or two (ie next weekend
   would be ideal)?
How much time does a) training and b) a run of something similar to
I-Banquet but fewer in number of invites take?
What would it cost me to print stuff?
Basically, what I'd love to do is learn how to use the printshop in the next
2 weeks and use that skill to print 2 or 3 different designs, depending on
what's feasible, or hallmark-style cards, basically. What do you think about
   this?
   Thanks,
   Liz
