There really shouldn't be any ambiguity here. The requirement, both
for pledges and brothers, is (if I remember the wording without looking
it up) that you must "learn, practice, or teach a Chapter skill." A
training run is unquestionably learning. A qual run is definitely
practicing and probably some more learning. So, each of them qualifies.
And of course the committment involved in doing just a training run
in the printshop is greater than that in most of our other chapter
skills, so if we didn't normalize, it'd be unfair to people choosing
the letterpress skill that they might not satisfy what the pledge program
wants them to do if they don't also get their qual run finished, though
they may well have put in more time than someone who chose another
skill and was finished in less time.
